This week and next, we will be going through your Mock Examination paper.

We will be analysing questions, looking at how to improve answers and completing an exam workshop.

Remember this was the paper 2, that last years full course GCSE Students sat.

Year 10- Exam Revision

Here is a grid we went through in lesson today.

You should fill this in with the sub topics of work within the Year 9 units of work.

This schedule should be stuck to strongly.

I EXPECT a minimum of 1 hour a day on weekends and 4 hours in total (mimimum), on weekends.

You have 25 days of revision left until your first exam.

**REMEMBER** to interleave your revision. Do not BLOCK it!

21st 22nd 23rd 24th- SAT 25th-SUN

26th 27th 28th 29th 30th-SAT

1st-SUN 2nd 3rd 4th 5th

6th 7th-SAT 8th-SUN 9th 10th

11th 12th 13th 14th-SAT 15th-SUN

After this exam, you have until June the 7th until your next exam. From May the 16th till June the 7th, that will give you 21 days until your exam.

Do the same kind of grid for your Year 10 units. A minimum of 1.5 hours a day of revision!

YEAR 10- EXAM PREPARATION- LAST YEARS EXAMINER REPORTS:

A questions

These are always based on one of the key concepts specified in the specification. For the majority of candidates they were able to give explanations of each of the concepts, often using an example in support.

B questions

These were generally well answered with candidates recognising they could write from a holistic stand-point regarding religion as well as from one specific tradition. Some candidates were applying extensive religious language to achieve full marks.

C questions

There seemed less confusion regarding the answering of C questions than in previous years. Most candidates recognised that the responses given did not need to be one for and one against.

D questions

The responses require a demonstration of knowledge and understanding regarding (usually) two religious traditions. There is still a weakness shown in an application of knowledge of religions. Often very generic comments are made or a response that shows a comparison between the two religions rather than what each religion believes. For some candidates if one religion believed in a certain concept then their fall-back position would be that the second religion doesn’t.

E questions

There were some excellent answers with developed thought and evidence. It was apparent, however, that the use of some writing frames was restricting candidates. The construction of the levels requires more than candidates writing a point for and against and inserting their own views.

Also, don’t forget your homework. I need two quotes for each Unit broken down into subtopics, one for quote for Islam and one for Christianity. They need to be printed and bought along to lesson.

Here are the joint mind maps you created. Feel free to download, however, I have printed a copy for everybody and will give them to you next lesson!

Thanks for the ‘Tom smells, good’ comment, and the spelling of Muslim as Mozlem! 😉

I am looking into Revision Guides and when to put on revision sessions for you. At the moment the majority wanted to do Thursdays from 2.30-3.30pm- in J38. However, I have to check if this room isn’t being used by a tutor group.

Year 10- Online Revision- Google Forms.

Your task this lesson will be to design your very own Google Form- Quiz!

  1. You will be assigned a topic each
  2. You will have to go to drive.google.com/drive/
  3. (You will need a Google Email account.)
  4. If you do not have one, either make one quickly or come and see me!
  5. In your Google Form you will need to ask Ao1 and Ao2 questions.
  6. You need to vary your questions to include multiple choice, text and paragraph text answers.
  7. Your google form must ask for the name of the person completing it and their email address so you can email them direct feedback!
  8. You need to number your questions like you would see in the examination  paper- a,b,c,d,e
  9. Once you have completed your form you need to embed it into the PADLET below!
  10. You will then complete each others quizzes. Once complete, you will email feedback to the person that has completed your quiz, correcting and commending where relevant!

Here is a link to help explain how to create a google form!

Screen Shot 2016-01-21 at 16.20.25

Create a quotes table per unit of work. Remember you need evidence for each unit of work.

Have you remembered all the specialist language needed for each of the units?

  • Religion and Authority
  • Religion and Conflict
  • Religion and Medicine
  • Religious Expression

You need to write a sub topic and write a quote/evidence/teaching from Christianity and Islam alongside that sub topic. Then write what that quote shows/proves/demonstrates.

Topic

Christian Views

Muslim Views This shows/means/demonstrates

For a list of topics and lessons, use this class blog. Search through using the tags.

  • Send me an email about what you are finding difficult in RE? aal@cheney.oxon.sch.uk

Thanks all! Please work hard!

Any incomplete work, must be completed for homework.

Year 10 Mock Exam Feedback- Unit 2- Religion and Authority, Unit 3- Religion and Conflict

This week you will be receiving feedback from your Year 10 Mock Examination paper.

In your feedback you will receive generic information that many of you have been doing/not doing in your exam papers, such as:

  • Avoid using the words- some religions or they… be specific about which religion says what.
  • Use evidence- either from the Quran/Bible- or religious teachings from the Hadith/Saints/Prophets/Jesus/Mohammad/Parables/Stories/Books from the Bible-Genesis etc.
  • Link it within paragraphs- Point/Evidence- and then explanations- this means/so this shows/this evidences/demonstrates…
  • Always link back to the question- show you have an understanding of what is being asked?
  • Are you clear about the differences between Ao1 and Ao2… which questions have which requirement?
  • Do you use your time wisely?
  • Can the examiner read your writing?
  • Have you written enough? Too much? Did you make it clear when you asked for more paper, which question you were answering and where you were continuing/starting from
  • When mentioning Christianity- make sure you mention which denominations- Roman Catholics/Anglicans/Quakers/Church of England.
  • Ensure you know the difference between key specialist language; Use specialist language as often as you can. Show you understand the meanings of these terms/words.
  • Do not use one word answers.
  • Do not write the question in your answer. E.G ‘A religious believer may believe…’
  • Watch your spelling!

Please remember the difference of answers required from Ao1 questions- A, (2marks) B, (4marks) D(6marks) and Ao2 questions- C,(4marks) E, (8marks).

Also, remember that your Year 10 examination has one unit that was taught to you in Year 9- Religious Expression. We are currently studying your final unit- Religion and Medicine.

You need to consider how much revision you completed? What the gaps in your knowledge are? Why? How will you make up for it?

I will be arranging individual meetings to go through exam feedback with you over the next two weeks too.

I will not be giving you exam grades. I will only be telling you how many marks off the next grades you were…

Total mark is 53 with 5 marks awarded to just one of the part e (8 mark) answers.

(24 marks a unit remember!)
